What does exercise coaching involve?

This is personal training with a difference! Exercise coaching involves the following:

Advanced coaching: Unlike most personal trainers who just count reps and stand next to the client watching them train, Performance Elevation continually assess exercise technique whilst the client trains, and coach the client to improve this in order to avoid injury and optimise results. Sessions are regularly modified and progressed to take into account the progress made. Sessions are tailored to the needs of each individual client.

Advanced assessments: These include questionnaires, interviews and physical tests, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the client. Posture analysis provides information as to which exercises may be detrimental or beneficial to the client. Various lifestyle assessments provide information on the barriers that may be affecting the client's health and training progress e.g. sleep quality. Movement analysis and muscle balance testing provide information on which muscles may be weak and which may be overused. Nutritional analysis provides information on the dietary requirements of each individual unique client. For a highly advanced nutritional assessment, see metabolic typing.

Goal setting: Goal setting is of vital importance to each and every one of us if we want to achieve anything. However, goals must follow set criteria in order to be effective. In this process, the client devises goals with Performance Elevation, and these are monitored regularly.

Programme prescription: These involve highly scientific, but simple-to-use exercise programmes. These may include strengthening exercises, stretches, cardiovascular exercises, and for athletes; speed, agility and quickness drills. To see an example of a strength training programme, click here. Where does exercise coaching take place?

Exercise coaching may be performed at various venues including gyms,  clients houses or sports pitches.

How frequently are exercise coaching sessions performed?

The frequency of them depends upon the needs of the client, and may range from several times per week, to once a fortnight.
